Hi All

after 13 years of RA forcing me to be very sedentary I was wondering how to build up stamina and get over crushing fatigue which strikes at times. This is one aspect of RA I dont like at all.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Hi Paul,

I became highly debilitated in the years I was using my electric cart.  At the time it was difficult to take more than a few steps without passing out from pain.  That lead to me being highly sedentary.  When I started getting my inflammation under control, the pain was much less or often even non-existant, but I had no cardiovascular conditioning and my muscles were so weak it was hard to walk.  It took many months of pushing myself to take an extra step for two and doing yoga to help strategically strengthen my muscles until I could walk a hundred steps or so without needing to rest.  It was an extraordinary year for me, because almost everyday I could do a little more than I could before.  My world started opening back up.  However, most of my friends don't remember me making much progress until many months into the recovery progress, because while every extra step was huge from my point of view, it didn't look that much different to them, until I could start doing things outdoors with them that had been impossible for years, such a take a walk in the park.

Hi Vrinda,

You can buy Barbara's book here: http://www.conqueringarthritis.com/cabook.htm
Or, if you don't want to wait for shipping, an ebook version is also available on Amazon.com.

All the best,
Cassi

Paul: Consider starting with a stationary bike if your knees permit

Thanks Eve sounds like a good idea I'll try one out and see if the knees want to go round and round.
