I am just diagnosed today with psa. I'm in a state of shock as I was a professional athlete and this has slowed me down to a halt. My ankles are swollen as well as my achilles. I'm in great shape but that may change soon if I stop exercising. My Rhuemy has prescribed Enbrel and says I could risk permanent joint damage if I don't get on meds soon. He doesn't believe in diet as a cure but that's ok. I have been mostly eating only vegetables for the last two weeks and now will graduate to only vegetable juices starting tomorrow. Mostly green leafy vegetables with carrots and apples.

Barbara, have you heard of anyone, and I mean anyone curing themselves of psoriatic arthritis with juice fasting? I need help! Please! Any advice or information yu can share is much appreciated.

Regards,

Glenn

Wanted to post an update... I've been juicing everyday but Ive also had some salads and oatmeal... Almost all vegetable juices... No gluten or sugar, dairy corn or soy... So far I haven't noticed any improvement with my arthritis...

I am continuing the diet though...

I know not much, but easily you could have gluten in your oatmeal, and you could be reacting to apples.  Hope you feel better soon.

Just wanted to chime in that I have not had any starches in the last 16 hrs and my symptoms have improved by 45%. I also started a water fast 12 hours ago so that could have something to do with it also...

Update..I did a 36 hr fast...the results were very encouraging..my psoriasis started clearing immediately and that has never happened even when I was juice fasting on vegetables...I didn't limp when i walked either..I believe there is a very good chance I have a gut problem and food allergy issue...

What's gonna happen when you start eating again, after all you need to eat starches for energy? You did well to 36 hr fast how did you manage that!

I did start eating again and symptoms have come back somewhat though not as bad. I have stayed off sugar starches gluten and dairy. In addition I am doing yoga in a dry sauna and focusing on my arthritic ankles....I think I need a candida diet for a long time to heal my gut.

I also want to add that I really believe a 10 day water fast would completely heal me of all symptoms. My 36 hr fast produced dramatic results which tells me this is a food issue. I dunno if a 10 day water fast is realistic for me as I have 4 children and a wife that need me. There's no way I'd do the dry sauna yoga if I was doing the fast either. Have you tried a water fast Paul? I bet your ra symptoms would improve...

I tried fasting but found it very hard and could only last half a day before I felt very ill and needed some carbs, done this a few times now.Can go a little longer

The main problem I think you are going to find is that once you reintroduce foods your symptoms will come back, so simply not eating is not going to be a solution! I think if you can fast one day a week this will help.

You still need to find the food triggers, somehow! Hence Barabara.

Yoga is very good for arthritis so keep that up , not sure about the sauna though.

BTW my brother has psioratic arthritis, his fingers are very swollen, but he still works as a garderner. He likes to many bakery foods, he attended a clinic run by a Dr Mansfield and felt better for it but has since given up and eats what he likes, hence his problems.

Hi Glenn,

I've worked with people with psoriatic arthritis.  Generally they get better once they find all their trigger foods and substances and then eliminate them.  Generally with psoriatic arthritis there is also an underlying trace mineral deficency as well.  It usually takes a few months on a liquid trace mineral supplement for that to start to reverse.  Like all forms of arthritis, diet is a very good place to start, but many people are like I was in that that dietary changes are necessary but some or all of the additional mind-body type treatments in my book are also necessary in addition to get to full healing.

Just letting readers know I ordered the ALCAT test today through Barbara. My decision was based on a 48 hour fast where I saw a dramatic reduction in my psa symptoms. If food is taken away, my joints begin to loosen up slowly but undeniably. I broke my fast with a fairly simple dinner of chicken, rice, corn and avocado. No sugar except for fruit. The next morning my joints were inflamed again and I was limping. I have concluded that I have a dietary issue. I am testing with the full Platinum panel. Hoping to make my psa a memory.

Keep us posted as to how you get on. My brother was found to be deficient in chromium with his psioratic arthritis when tested.

Thanks Paul. I took my first Humira injection yesterday and am already seeing my symptoms improve dramatically. I'm by no mans 100% symptom free but maybe 40%. I needed to take the Humira while I work on my diet to heal my gut. The Humira will bring the inflammation down and ensure no joint damage. My plan is to work very hard with my diet for the next 6 months- 1 year and if I get symptom free I will discontinue the Humira and see if the arthritis comes back. Taking the Humira was a huge step for me as I was very against it but I needed something to stop the inflammation and potential joint damage while I get to the intrinsic underlying cause of my problem.

Update..while I am awaiting my alcat results I have been more liberal with my diet..I've eaten starches and a little dairy and had two pizzas..I have noticed a considerable increase in itching with my psoriasis. My arthritis is ok but the humira injection is helping with that. I took it 6 days ago and I have almost zero pain when walking but when I try to play a sport that requires hard pivoting I can feel the arthritis deep in my joints and I can't perform very well at all.

I have been doing bikram yoga on my own in a dry sauna at 175 degrees for 30 minutes daily. It helps to detox and I spend extra time sitting on my feet (child's pose) so that by the time I stop I can do it comfortably.
I am eager to get my alcat results and stop the itching and work toward being symptom free. I think I will be able to accomplish as much.
