I'm a 6'0" male and fluctuate between 158 and 165 pounds depending on my diet.  however, when fasting, I drop weight substantially - especially after the first three days.  For many this may be a silver lining, but it concerns me because it feels like I'm moving away from my ideal weight.  Is there anything I can take during a fast to help maintain my bodyweight?  I read that olive oil would help, but I'm concerned this may also slow down the healing process.  Thanks, any thoughts/discussion would be much appreciated!

Hi Mike,

There is no good way to maintain weight while fasting.  Olive oil or any other type of oil will do nothing to put on or keep on weight while fasting.  It will just burden the body with a substance it cannot handle well in the fasting state.

If you need to maintain weight while still testing for food sensitivities, the best way is the ALCAT blood test:  http://www.ConqueringArthritis.com/alcat

You don't need to fast to take the ALCAT test.

Mike I have to say I have been in your boat. I am 5'10 and 160 normally but through my first two fasts about a month apart I dropped like a rock down to 148. People were asking me what was wrong I got skinny. Doing some experimenting food sensitivity wise I found an ice cream with just 4 ingredients (milk, sugar, eggs, and cream). I had tested eggs and milk and been ok so I ate a lot of that over the next month but only on a rotation basis ie I would eat a lot for a couple of days then wait 4 days before eating it again. In a months time I gained back all 12 lbs. That was a couple of months ago now I am about 162. Also I found alcohol was one of about 10 things that are triggers for me. I quit drinking and my gut seems to be healing now slowly. When I do get a bad food my symptoms don't last as long as before. I am much much improved but it took me 9 months of constant recording what I ate, fasting, and experimenting to get to this point. I am not healed but I am close now!
