Hi Eveyone,

I was daignosed with RA a 1.5 months ago, and just started my fast 2 days ago.

I was wondering if anyone has done fasting and if so, have your inflammation decreased?

How long does it take for the inflammation to decrease with fasting?

I still have inflammation in my hands and shoulders?

Thanks,

Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

When you fast it usually takes three full days for the infammation to go away.

If the inflammation doesn't go away by then, there is still something you are being exposed to that is triggering your inflammation.  That might be something unknown in your water supply, it might be that unknown to you, you are reacting against one of the vegetables you are using for broth or vegetabel juice, or it might be something else in your environment like cigarette smoke or a skin lotion or hand sanitizer with ingredients that you react against.

Hi Barbara,

Okay.  Thank you.

I am doing the fast for one more day (4 days total).  According to my ALCAT test i am safe for cabbage, celery and carrots.

The swelling went down for my hands since yesterday, but my right shoulder is still a bit painful.

I changed my toothpaste to a natural one, changed soaps (more natural), do u think the brita water filter is sufficient enough to eliminate chemicals, chlorine, etc?

Can you recommend a gentle detergent for my clothes?

Do you think i should fast for a couple more days?
Do u think ginger tea is okay during a fast?
Should I fast again next month?
Also,  I wasn't sure about when I should start my vitamins again?

Thank you!

A Brita filter will remove chlorine.  It may not remove everything you react against.  For instance, some people react to the flouride added to city tap water.  If like most people, flouride isn't a problem for you, then no problem.  If you do react to flouride, than you need to find a source of unfluoridated water.  Occationally tap water may also be contaminated with something else (usually unknown) that a person reactions to.  A Brita filter may or may not be able to remove it.

Querstions from Stephanie:

Do you think i should fast for a couple more days?  Your choice.  Yes, if you can do it without negatively impacting the rest of your life (for example, it is hard to work full time and fast) and you can stand to lose the extra weight.
Do u think ginger tea is okay during a fast?  Only if you know you don't react to anything in the ginger tea.
Should I fast again next month?  Yes, that could be quite useful in helping your body do a deep cleaning and also in identifying any hidden allergens left in your diet/environment
Also,  I wasn't sure about when I should start my vitamins again?  You can either stop them for a while, while you focus on testing other foods and substances with selective reintroduction or you could add them back now, to test if there is anything in them you are reacting against.  (Do the selective reintroduction testing as described in the Conquering Arthritis book).

Question from Stephanie:
Can you recommend a gentle detergent for my clothes?

Try to find one that doesn't use source materials that you react against.  This can vary from person to person, so it is hard to recommend one particular brand.
