Apitherapy - injecting bee venom subcutaneously around arthritis inflammation. A milenar therapy, they say and so I have read about it since profusely; have been invited to try it for free in an experiment going on in Rio, Brazil, where I live. Carried out by some American natural therapists (who are also MDs) and who collected the bee venom in Africa; they are here helping the Ministry of Health avoid the spread of certain diseases amongst Indians in the Amazon, and who come to Rio weekly.

Has anyone tried this yet? Got to know a couple of success stories (which I checked carefully) and accepted. Took allergy tests and blood tests and cortisol measurement etc and have had 2 sessions where they inject the equivalent of 1 bee“s venom, then 2 etc - having it done on both my wrists - the left with an old injury and which has been operated on to sew tendons together, etc and the right which has just started a cycle of RA. Very itchy for 4 days, especially at night - which they say is good (...) and the swelling went down 50% after the itching stopped - and two days later they injected again. It can go up to 12 sessions, but they think I will need only 8 or so... high hopes.

After the disaster with my right hand, I regularly use natural therapy by way of diet and exercise with good results, and take no medicines whatsoever, and it keeps it all well under control - but this could CURE it they say - or at least put it to sleep for years?Huh

Let me know if you have heard of this or done anything similar.

Dear Susan,

I very much look forward to reading how api therapy is working for you.  There are some promising studies on it in the medical literature, but I have never tried it myself.

Have had 3 shots so far, and the itching has got worse, now lasting sth like 6 days - but the good news is that step by step the swelling is going down and I am regaining some movements in my left wrist.  Will keep this updated as changes occur  Smiley Susan
