Hi, I am considering a water fast at this time to improve my condition beyond what has occurred since my ALCAT and eliminating all know stressors. I have some stubborn inflammation in my knees and feet and persistent fatigue. It seems as though I am doing things out of order but overall much I am greatly improved and do believe I can heal. I am thinking water fast and rest. I did for almost a day and feel stronger. I would love to hear of anyones fasting experiences or anything that gave them a good result in relieving heaviness, swelling and tightness.. I am able to exercise a bit, walking, short flat bike riding, usually end up very fatigued.... Thank you all and be well.

Dear Effy,
Yes, sometimes a short water fast can be of great benefit. Usually it helps when there is some trigger still in your food or environment. If you get better on the water fast, you know you eliminated a trigger. Be very careful about how you introduce foods and liquids after the water fast, to discover what it was that was still triggering you.
Also be aware that it isn't just what we put in our mouth and swallow that can trigger our sensitivities. Anything you put in your mouth (toothpaste, gum, densure fixative, etc) your immune system can react to. Anything you smell, your immune system can react to. Anything that absorbs into your skin (lotion, metal from watches or jewelry, soaps, shampoo) your immune system can react to. Sometimes it isn't a water fast that is needed, it is eliminating non-food triggers.

Thank you for your response. I am at day 3 and much improved but not quite there. Wow... environmental triggers! I just moved to a different home and different climate about 2 months ago.... I will keep it all in mind... I will be honest. It is exasperating...

Yes, it can be exasperating and sometime overwhelming when you are still in the discover stage. On those days it is best to just go with what you already know. On other better days, when you are feeling more resilience, you can resume the indentification and elminiation efforts.
I mentioned the environmental triggers not be make it seem too large a task to take on, but just to sensitize you to possible triggers. Knowledge is power.
If you do have a few environmental triggers, you will feel much better once you identify them and learn to successfully negotiate them.

How is your water fast going Effy? I started off with a two day water fast and then started introducing one food at a time to see if I react to it. So far, I am improving day by day. My initial improvement was dramatic and I was expecting a continued fast improvement but have not removed corn from my shampoo and anti-perspirant. Can anyone recommend a few without corn? I was surprised to find that I was allergic to salmon and tilapia. I was taking high dose Omega 3 DHA from the company Ascenta as recommended by my physician for those with rheumatic illnesses. Makes sense as it is highly anti-inflammatory. But taking it everyday led to an allergy to it. What a relief to come off of it. The pain and inflammation are slowly melting away but may take longer than the typical seven days because of the build up of omega 3 fats from the Ascenta doses that have been stored in my fat cells. Does anyone know how long that will take?

Thank you for asking, like you I have relief until I return to eating. I have simplified my diet and am trying also a rotation diet approach. It is difficult and I am getting a little nutty with it all. I would benefit from hearing more about anything that is helping you. I have returned to many of my former activities with pretty good energy but still have flares if I overdo. Best to you. Please keep posting. Effy

Hi Effy, It sounds like this is going to be a process for both of us but I have hope that I can do it. I just had my first taste of organic steak today, done in the crockpot and it was soooo delicious....even without flavourings since I haven't tested spices yet. I was really pleased I didn't have a reaction to it. I also exercised for 15 min walking on the treadmill today which Barbara mentioned I should do after a couple of days into the fast. It definitely reduced some of the swelling and joint snapping that I was experiencing. I have a sore throat today and am taking Vit C with dextrose (corn) and the ascorbic acid is supposedly corn based too so I'm hurting a bit more after I take a dose of it. With only five allowable foods, three suspect, and one definite no no, this water based fast where I test one food per day is definitely challenging but I am pleased with the results so far.

hi, glad walking is helping... the sore throat could be a reaction or cleansing... this process seems so tricky... if you are corn sensitive you could be reacting to the vitamin c... food for thought. Are you on facebook? There is an ALCAT support page there which can simplify the communication... if not no worries I will watch for your posts. Good luck. Today it is chicken and carrots for me... lol! Best, Rochele

Hi Rochelle, It is March Break this week so it will be a little nutty trying to get on here everyday. I'll do my best. How did your chicken and carrots go today?
I watched a one hour video by Barbara Allan today where she was interviewed. It was really informative. Did you see it? If not, I'll post it. But it spoke of a much easier method of fasting than I've been following and I think I'll switch to it. It was called the 'Lamb and Pear Diet' where you eat two foods which you have rarely eaten for seven days or until your symptoms have completely disappeared. Then you continue to eat those foods and test one food per day. If you get a reaction, you return to the two original foods plus any safe foods you have identified and wait until symptoms completely disappear again. The important thing is to pick two original foods that you have no reaction to. So I'll have to think about how I would get an organic food that I have no reaction to......that will take some research. Exercise is still helping....barely any joint swelling or snapping. But still have a remnant of the sore throat from the family bug that is going around. I've heard of a sore throat when you get a reaction to something....as I did with a water filter or something I reacted to in water from another city when travelling but hadn't heard of a cleanse reaction....I'll watch for that one. Catch you later, Susan

Hi Rochelle, Here is the video. It's a really good one and very informative: http://bambuser.com/channel/reawakenyourbrilliance/broadcast/2172444 I wish the interviewer didn't stop Barbara from speaking on a couple of topics as one of them was the various diet testing methods. I think Barbara was only able to explain two before she was asked to answer another question....but the conent is still good and I enjoyed listening to it. Today was a sore day for me. I tested a food that I definitely reacted to....getting a little frustrated as there are so many. But in the end I just need enough to stay healthy until I can heal......so I'll keep trying. Tomorrow, I am off to a local farm that produces organic, grass fed wild and interesting meats that I've never even eaten before so I'm assuming?? I won't react to them!!! If this doesn't work!! haha! I don't know what else to try. I just can't wait to be pain free....the problem is I need to figure out a water source that I don't react to or at least a liquid source. Milks don't seem to work, and water is a problem, so perhaps some pure juices that are not re-constituted? Hope you enjoy the video. Susan

Amazing information. Thank you. I have realized that I am able only to take in only so much information and I need to hear and experience things more than one time. I am thinking I need to revisit some other topics as well... Great link... thank you for sharing. Best, Rochele
